This one of the ‘famous’ Excel’s function return the average value of all values in range of cells. It can be called ‘middle value’ of the data set as well. AVERAGE function can be used at one cell or range of cells that’s why it’s called an to Array Formula. Look at the example below.



In this example we used only greater that zero values. At A7 we typed =AVERAGE(A1:A6) the value is in A8 cell (3,066667). In the next example we changed some value for below zero.



Result at A8 changed and now it’s 733333. Let’s have a look how it will work at the array.



At example above we used lot number generator function to generate big array and the result of all the values in cells from A1 to D12 =AVERAGE(A1:D12) was 0,519806. For AVERAGE function there is no difference between generated values and keyboards typed ones.
