COUNTA function

COUNTA formula is extended version of basic COUNT function, it counts the number of cells that are not empty as well as the number of arguments that contain values.

Let's have a look at the database below.

When we use simple =COUNTA(A1:A10) we will get number of cells when we have any data and there is 8. But when we use =COUNTA(A1:A10, honey) we'll get number of cells with any data plus the one with 'honey' keyword. So the result we'll be 9.

COUNTA function Exercises

1. Type different type of data: digits, text, leave some cells empty, and mix text and digits together in range of cells from A1 to A20. Use =COUNTA(A1:A20). You will get number of cells with any data.

2. Work at database from excercise 1. Use =COUNTA(A1:A20, different_data, next_different_data). Different_data is value of non only digit cell from your typed data and next_different_data is any other explained value.
